Technical Specifications of LDEO OBS08 Model broadband ocean bottom seismometer.

Seismometer	Mark Products L-4, three component 1 Hz geophones coupled to very low noise chopping amplifiers within motor driven leveling gimbals. The useful bandwidth of the sensors is from about 0.005 to 60 Hz. Gimbals will level to a precision of better than 0.2° from any orientation. Instrument response is flat to acceleration from 0.015 Hz to 30 Hz.
Pressure Sensors	Differential Pressure Gauge (DPG) + Hydrophone. Useful bandwidth of .001 to 60 Hz.
Digitizer	LDEO designed 5 channel, 24 bit digitizer with datalogger. Gain and bandwidth switching under software control can also be employed to extend dynamic range of the seismometer.
Disk Capacity	16 GBytes in normal configuration, 32 Gbyte maximum. Uses standard Compact Flash Cards.
Clock	Qtech Model 2002. Drift rate is of order 1.0 ms/day. Timing errors are correctable to better than 30 ms during a one year deployment.
Sample Rates	1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20, 25, 40, 100, 125 Hz. Normally 40 Hz (low) and 125 Hz (high). Instrument may be set to change sample rates at predetermined times as often as required by the user. Other sample rates below 250 Hz are possible but require a software modification.
Recording duration	Normally 1 year; the typical datalogging profile is 3 weeks at 125 Hz followed by 49 weeks at 40 Hz. Maximum depends on disk space, number of channels and sample rate. Deployments of longer than 12 months require supplemental batteries; deployments longer than 18 months are not recommended.
Battery Requirements	One pack of 44 lithium thionyl chloride DD size cells for a one-year deployment with L-4 sensor and DPG. Each pack consists of an analog string (+/-7.2V) and a digital string (+7.2V).
Power	Total power consumption 300 mW at a sample rate of 40 Hz with sensor and DPG.
Release	Two independent Edgetech BART acoustic transponder releases (burn wires).
