OBSIP was established in 2000 as a way to democratize access to ocean-bottom seismometers.
Lead PIs from the three IIC institutions have accounted for only *% of OBSIP-supported experiments.
Over the last ten years, the number of instruments in the pool has grown to ~100
each of broadband and short-period instruments.
By 2011, the total number of broadband instruments will increase to 160.
The instrument and data return rates have increased as a result of continuous
focus on instrument improvements and risk mitigation.
Instruments are oversubscribed by a factor of >2.
